H is for Heaven, Hell and Other Afterlives (Creative work)
Universal identifier /205876fa7da14d5a8c7d82484c8f4f6d#id
rdfs:comment Is there life after death? According to most religions, the answer is yes, and each faith is quite specific about the sort of afterlife you can expect. This short and lively animated film provides a helpful summary of what different religions have to say about the matter. Students will be introduced to the various interpretations of Heaven and Hell found across the Christian faith, and the differences and similarities they share with their Islamic counterparts. The Buddhist concepts of reincarnation and nirvana are also explored. Students will learn that most religions agree on one thing: what happens to the soul after the body dies is not random, but a result of the choices we make when we are alive.[en]

rdfs:comment Christianity is a monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, who serves as the focal point for the religion. It is the world's largest religion, with over 2.4 billion followers, or 33% of the global population, known as Christians. Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the savior of humanity whose coming as the Messiah (the Christ) was prophesied in the Old Testament. Christian theology is summarized in creeds such as the Apostles' Creed and Nicene Creed. These professions of faith state that Jesus suffered, died, was buried, descended into hell, and rose from the dead, in order to grant eternal life to those who believe in him and trust in him...

rdfs:comment Nathan introduces the Christian religion, followed by over 2 billion people, about one third of the whole world. He describes how Jesus’ life and death, and belief in his resurrection, make sense of life for Christians. Lara, a Catholic Christian from Jerusalem, shares her Christian life in a city where many Christians go on pilgrimage. Many holy sites remind Christians of the last days of Jesus.[en]

rdfs:comment The religious background to Original Sin is explained by Bettany Hughes. She gives a brief summary of the early life of St. Augustine and the contrast with his life after baptism into the Christian faith. Augustine's concept of Original Sin is explained by reference to the story of Adam and Eve. Bettany looks at the implications this has for attitudes towards women and sexual relationships.[en]

Eric Liddell - 'The Flying Scotsman' (Creative work)
Universal identifier /0d127302ced347ffa022d07e1966c0d2#id
rdfs:comment 1924: the Olympics in Paris. One of those competing is Eric Liddell, 'The Flying Scotsman' - the best sprinter in the world. But before Eric travels to the Olympics, the race schedule is published and Eric is dismayed. His favourite race, the 100 metres, will be run on a Sunday. Eric's strict Christian beliefs will not allow him to run on a Sunday. Eric had been poised to become the first Scotsman to win Olympic gold, but now the only race he can enter is the 400 metres. It's a race he has never run before and his chances of winning any medal, let alone a gold one, seem remote. The day of the race arrives. As Eric stands on the starting line someone emerges from the crowd and presses a piece of paper into his hand. Written on the paper is a line from the Bible: 'Those who honour me, I will honour.' Eric is still clutching the piece of paper in his hand as the starting gun sounds and Eric begins his run into Olympic history.[en]

rdfs:comment Nathan introduces the Christian religion, followed by over 2 billion people, about one third of the whole world.
